With an array of colourful wristbands still attached to our wrists indicating the vast amount of parties attended, it was time to shift gears and head to Downtown Miami to the Miami Carnival'06 parade. So after some much needed Zzzz's and ah greedy breakfast at Denny's, TJJ was once again on the road and actually made it down to the parade around 1:30pm.

Keeping to true West Indian form, there was not ah bead, feather or even ah slight sound of any big truck in sight... ammmm allyuh sure dey have a parade today? (lol) With the occasional masquerader hussling up the road we decided to follow suit and soon enough ran into some action. We stumbled across a few small bands, some of which were the traditional Ole Mas, to a grooving steel band section. However, it was only until we ran into the larger mas bands like Generation X, China Mas Group, ScanDlus & Radikal big bands was when de action started and the true spirit of Carnival really hit.

What we particularly enjoyed on the road this year was the selection of music played by the DJs, keeping true to the soca for the most. And with the growing popularity of Trinidad's local reggae, hearing the Marlon Asher and Isasha selections ocassionally in de mix was all gravy (especially the soca refixes). So large up DJs like Back to Basics, Natural Freaks, Dorenzo, Rambo and Tony Tempo and all other DJs for doing ya ting on the road. A downside for us was the fact that the parade route seemed very short. The bands lined up between NE 29th and 35th Streets. The parade moved South on NE 2nd Avenue, East on NE 15th Street, South on Biscayne Boulevard, West on NE 12th Street and North again on NE 1st Avenue to NE 17th Street. So before we could blink or take a proper jump up, music trucks were finding ah park at the end of the parade route. We decided to take our last lap jump up with Gen X which had lots of hot women. As Machel would say, "Pretty, pretty dolly!" Oh, we gotta shout out the "Insane Crew". After we see one ah dem put down ah wine all over ah smallie head on de back of de music truck, we had to give some props, yes!

On NE 1st Avenue, there were lots of booths with the usual Caribbean food, beverages and crafts on sale to go along with the entertainment. And for all non-masqueraders, this was all for free. Yip, no cover charge to get into the park (or airport or horse track) like previous years... cause there wasn't one to enter! :-) Okay, it was minutes after 6pm when we decided to break out to link up de rest of the TJJ crew up north at Broward Carnival'06. Where we park de car again??!!

With over 300 pics for your viewing pleasure, we hope everyone had as much fun as we did on the road. See you next year! Chip Chip Chip.......
