What's shaking folks! Everyone expected a blazing hot July 4th this year. Unfortunately, the weather was grim to say the least. Yuh talk bout rain. Shucks man! But you know Trini's... RAIN OR SHINE WE FETTING!!! So TJJ geared up and headed to Swanky Promotions back yard fete and presentation of the return of TnT's 3 Canal in Brooklyn.
The sky continued to threaten rain when we arrived, but that did not deter us nor the long line of patrons with umbrella in tow. The back yard was set up real nice. Upon entry, everyone received a complimentary shack shack with the stars and stripes blazing... you know, to celebrate the holiday. Nice touch Swanky. We don't always have to be waving the red, white and black. As you walked in, the bar was conveniently located to the left and the food to the right. Whoo hoo, you done know we like that! After we got our drinks together and eat ah food, it was down to business. BTW.... the food was awesome.
The ladies were hot to trot with their stylish outfits as usual. Of course there were a few no no's. Why oh why would you wear stiletto's to a back yard? Now, I love my heels, but not in ah back yard! No eh! Anywho, I mentioned umbrellas before. You know some women are very fussy about rain and hair do's. They just don't go together, hence parasols of all kinds. No, Tantie Merle was not there! Hee hee.
The rain did decide to fall after all, but the gigantic trees created a canopy that minimized the raindrops immensely. Through out the evening we didn't really notice the on and off rain because thanks to DJ's Anonymous, Natural Freaks, Back to Basics, GB God Bless and Platinum Sounds, people could not stop wining. And we must shout out Red Man for keeping the energy hype on the mic. Magically the rain stopped and allowed for what turned out to be a wicked performance by 3 Canal! Post Man made a quick guest appearance before 3 Canal blessed the stage. Then it was a Hitalotathon®!!! "Rise", "Talk Yuh Talk", "Blue" and "Good Mornin'" were just some of the hits partygoers were treated to. What we particularly loved about 3 Canal's performance was the fact that they wasted no time to give the fans what they wanted from the start..... singing their most popular 2007 hit "Good Mornin'" as their 2nd song. And better yet, they ended their performance on a high note with an encore of "Good Mornin'". We couldn't get enough.... the wining and jumping never stopped!!! At one point, some woman bum rushed the stage to jam on the group! The woman almost took off my toe in the process.... and she was not small!!
Trini Jungle Juice had an opportunity to chat with the fellas of 3 Canal before they performed. They were excited to be in Brooklyn again. If you were wondering what makes their music so great, they said that it's the love for where they come from, our culture, music and our people.
What a great July 4th, 2K7! So much so that the TJJ Red Team joined us after covering another day fete, "So Fresh So Clean", instead of reporting back to the office. We could only all joke amongst ourselves when people kept asking us when the coverage would be posted.... and there we all were soaking in the festivities like everyone else! Life is too short, ent?
