Today was a dream, from the weather to the smallies to the lime, Georgia Ave was electrified. What better way to round off a spectacular DC Carnival Saturday than to hit up an HD fete in the middle of nowhere. The directions were simple, even for out-of-towners but by the time yuh reach you realize you really in d bush. Most would be quite familiar with the venue. It's the same venue that the now well established Taboo fete takes place every year. This however, is the first time that the HD experience has graced the stage at this pristine sprawling venue known to us as the Broadwater Estate. TJJ crew roll up nice and early to avoid the massive traffic jams we saw the night before. Parking cyah done, so once we reach it was smooth sailing to find a decent spot not too far from the entrance. How the night starts sets the pace for the whole lime usually, so things nice.

Waiting for some other TJJ fam to pull up, we got a chance to observe the massive crowds as they poured into the venue. Word is, folks that purchased tickets online had no issues collecting their tickets on the night and all went quite smoothly, you gotta love modern technology. Onwards to the bar now, well that was nothing short of a hot mess. If yuh see long line to buy chits. There were only two bars, one closer to the entrance and one closer to the stage. The one line for buying chits was at the bar closer to the entrance. Imagine an estate ram cram with West Indian people who come to fete and only one line with one duncy person sellin' chits slow slow slow like they used to go and pitch marble during maths. Mr. Broadwater better tighten up his act with that one if he want to keep the bar action for himself and not let the promoter run the bar, nuff said. We kinda only realize what was going one when we see the Klimaxx crew and ask them for a little bligh to buy chits, it was like them and all had to join the line yes......

Facing the main structure near the pool the stage was on the right. Some said it would have been an even more memorable experience had the stage been placed down the hill, in what really is a natural amphitheatre. We'll see what happens next year. The system was sounding good where it was none the less. Lots of food on hand as well. As a matter of fact, we noticed that the food line never really died down not even when Machel Montano HD was on stage! West Indians love dey bake and shark and dey corn soup yes :-) Gotta say thanks to the Klimaxx crew who found the time to come and hang with the TJJ fam despite having a fete of that magnitude to run. When a promoter take the time to come and bring food for the crew and shite talk for while, THAT IS REAL LOVE!

So smallies like rain, some by the pool some up front by the stage some more towards the back, it was a good night for the eyes but not so good for the neck ;-) You could find the TJJ fam right by the bar in the back not too far from the stage or the corn soup man with some Johnny and a bag of ice, essential fete gear. And with that winter breeze blowin', yuh needed ah lil' something to keep yuh warm yes.

So about 2:30AM or so it was showtime. Notably absent from the stage was Farmer Nappy, who was also MIA in Tobago for the Plymouth Jazz Festival 2007. Is that the end of yet another Xtatik staple? We not sure if his absence had anything to do with it, but the HD sound was not as well put together as it usually is on this night. And a speaker box fallin' on Machel foot didn't help the situation either. The man is a really crowd pleaser though, after he grimace for a little while he was back on stage mashin' up the dance again, just this time he was hoppin' on one foot, talk bout never giving up!! The man say as long and the 3rd leg ok, he ok! A good time was had by all. Shortly after the HD performance, orders came down to wrap it up. That was real 'House of Payne' aka 'gobar', but all good things must come to an end.
