Calypso/Kaiso music is very special to TnT. It's because of the Calypso music created by some of the talented artistes in our country, that allowed the music to continue and to remain strong even to introduce a break through of music, which is known today as Soca.
TJJ arrived at the 1st installment of Trini Bashment's Kaiso 4 Summer. As we entered the compound Iwer George was entertaining the crowd, singing his songs from yesteryear. He mentioned to the crowd during his performance, how they banned his song on the radio together with Gypsys Little Black Boy saying that they were racist songs. Iwer further expressed if a black man wants to marry an Indian woman, nothing is wrong with that... at least the black boy would be educated!! Then he went on to sing his famous song Bottom In De Road.
Following that he sang a tune that most people thought he wouldn't sing, which was Think It Over, then went on to sing "Times Is Getting Hard, which was his first tune at Kitcheners tent. Iwer then came off the stage into the VIP audience to introduce us to his mother and to his whole family, also allowing his son to perform his song which gave him the 2007 Soca Monarch title Fete after Fete.
Following that performance, Iwer departed, allowing the veterans of Kaiso music to make their way on stage. With Composer, singing his hit tune Carnival Celebration also Cro-Cro coming out giving us a wonderful performance of his tune Beat Me In Kaiso.
Then Protector came on stage. This was actually the first time in my life seeing him perform, as he sang his song Roots. Then meh boy Johnny King blazed the stage with his song I Want It. Most of the performers were not on stage for a long period of time, but Roots Man came back on stage a little while before the end of the show and took us back in times doing classics such as Rock Meh Rock Meh and All Night Tonight.
About 5 minutes following that performance, one of the main men in Kaiso music, the great Black Stalin, also took us back to some nice music. He performed Ah Coming and also the song that really put his name out there, letting everyone know who Black Stalin is, the ever popular Tonight De Black Man Feeling To Party. That right there is a real nice Kaiso tune!!
Now we know Super Blue hasn't been on the scene since certain things played out in his life, and I hope that he comes back real strong. Super Blue really had the crowed going from the moment his name was mentioned. The crowd ran all the way to the front of the stage to greet Mr. Lyons as he performed some of his hits like Soca Party and Ethel. After Supers performance you could still hear audience calling for more!! The show ended at 2:10 AM. As much as I would have liked to see the concert go on longer, it was still a very nice experience. A clean & classy event!! Khaos Belfon for the TJJ fam ==================================== |
