For the non-New Yorkers, The Island, is a Backyard/Mas Camp. You know how allyuh like a fete any day of the week. Well you can find some action every Sunday, usually from about 6pm till midnight or unless New York's finest says it's a wrap.

As you approach, the huge banged up gates that lead into the "Yard", as it is affectionately known, you cannot help but wonder what kind of old junkyard it is. Upon entry, however, you are immediately surrounded with a charming, rustic ambiance. Wooden floors and panels lead you into the rest of the "Yard" adorned with bamboo flambeaux (Ikea style) and bucket candles to set the mood in this open air sanctuary. If you just want to sit and sip, there is a sheltered, quaint lounge area on the left after you enter, with leather sofas, little tables and charming throw rugs. The DJ's have the ultimate bird's eye view, as they are perched on an almost central platform of about 5 feet.

Well when TJJ arrived around 8pm, the place was very scanty but before we knew it, the turn out was great! DJs Anonymous, New Wave & D' Professionals were turning out the hits and everyone was having a ball. The food was definitely on par and of course, you know there wasn't a soul without a cup in hand. The vibe was so sweet that no one noticed that the sky had become angry and decided to buss ah big piece ah rain on us! Eef yuh see people scampering for shelter! The rain pounded hard for about ten minutes reminding the gainfully employed that they have responsibilities the next day. With that, everyone said his or her good-byes till we return for Blue Safari on Sunday July 1st.

Thanks to Rango and Associates for having us. Hope to see you all one Sunday this summer in the "Yard".

Peace, Rae
