When was the last time you hit a back in times fete? I mean a real one that actually has old school music? As soon as we arrived at De River we could hear the classics floating out of the doors. Chunes like "Meh Lover" by Lord Nelson had us chippin' through the doors. BTW, it was a little on the brisk side.. some folks did not want to take off their jackets!

As we walked in, I started to get flashbacks, the last time I was at De River.. it was Shine NY and the place was ram cram jam! This time, it was a little on the light side and it was 12:30-ish. My crew lined up their bottles pronto while I thawed out.

I couldn't understand why everyone was just standing around like 12 year olds in a big people fete??!! I mean there was a “perfect square” in the middle of the crowd as DJ Foreign Bass said. Lol! Well I guess everyone decided to arrive at the same time because before I knew it, I was tripping over set ups on the floor and trying to squeeze through the crowd. At this point everyone was having a time. Big big big chunes was mashing up the dance! I was chatting with someone about how long it was since I last saw them and the familiar sound of Patra stop me dead in mid sentence!!! Woye!!! Talk about flash back! I thought I was at a Chinese Laundry or Dr. Hyde bashment, yes!!!

Speaking of the dub man himself ... Doctooorr Hydaahhh!!! The man started to leggo some dub .. lawd .. folks were skinning out, waving, and holding their heads!!! Rhel maxi chunes, school dance chunes and.. remember Mona Lisa? Lawd! The legendary Teddy Mohammed also took a turn making us all get on with some rhel jamishness.

On the upper level, John from the ultimate retro reggae spot in Williamsburg, Brooklyn was also hitting us heavy. When the old school soca buss ... at first it was like wait nah.. isn’t that the going home music? Soon it clicked again that this was old school at it’s best. Sweet!!! Gimme de ting whey de doctor order me ... "Gimme de Ting"!

The fete was live and couldn’t get any better when, Shadow blessed the stage and just started to unload hits and was well wining like he is twenty something! “Yuh lookin' fuh horn...” Whoohoothe dance was swinging and everyone just sang along. Shadow set up the crowd just right because “The Boss” Iwer followed and just mash up! I had to run for cover because ”De people want watah!!!!” Hear nah ... bacchanal in de place! The hits kept comin' and folks just kept wining! When last you see Iwer do the butterfly?? lol! Doh talk for his new chune with Ziggy Rankin "We Like It"! Just hold your head and wine wine wine wine wine wine wine wine wine wine wine... we like it! smile

It was a wrap for us after Iwer finished us off. We certainly did remember the times especially when Foreign Bass took us on a trip back to Sesame Street and Cheers. Lol!

Petite ... mwah!
