One of the BEST band launches I have been to so far has been Tribe’s presentation of “Birds of a Feather” for 2009. Tribe spent some serious cash on the décor which made fellow and future masqueraders feel like they were in a bird sanctuary. As you entered you stepped into a cage whereby you could observe all the exotic birds, both of local and international species. My favorite was parrot that repeated “Welcome to Tribe”.

Taking place at the selected venue, Pier 1, the TTJ crew was there early for the pre-launch in which we got a taste of the presentation before the general public. The nights hosts were Jason Williams and Blaze of RED 96.7FM.The duo did a great job of entertaining the media and special invited guests such as President Max Richards and his wife, Donna Cox, Big Mike (Legends) and Jus Jase to name a few.

The media got a chance to meet the faces of Tribe. Remember the competition they held a few weeks ago to discover new Tribe models?. Well the winners are Stephaine Llanos, who displayed Green Honeycreeper and Jeffery Charles in Wild Parrot. First runner up was Jamie-Lee Phillips, who was in my favorite section Brazilian Macaw, which is designed by Sandra Hordatt and Ginette Edwards; and the second runner up Victoria Jagessar. They all did a great job of displaying the bird creations.

Meanwhile as people came out in their numbers, there were many who were stuck in traffic which was backed up all the way to West Mall. The early patrons didn't mind as they had free drinks and good music to keep them active before the actual band launch.

At 1:30am, the lights on the stage dimmed for the feature presentation as white doves on a long black pole came through the crowd. On the stage you heard, "Welcome to Tribe," as a thick fog covered the ramp. Out of no where, the male models appeared on the stage sending female patrons into a frenzy. These models with their abs of steel and cute faces didn't have us women thinking straight! One model was the talk of the crowd as he had on flesh-coloured shorts, which had all the ladies’ eyes popping and amazed with that gentleman's package. Damn baby, can I have your number? *lol*

As booming soca music accompanied the presentation, out came the female models. You could hear people saying, “I like that one", “Oooh, Ah", “I love it”, “We playin in that!!” The presentation was a jaw dropping one, as the 16 exotic birds sections hit you like a shock. I felt like I was taking a dose of medicine for each section - African Lovebird, Birds Of Paradise, Blue Tanager, Brazilian Macaw, Caged Canary, Flamingo, Flight of the Ibis, Green Honeycreeper, Golden Dove, Hummingbird, Kiskadee, Pheasant, Night Owl, Ruby Topaz, Spangled Continga and Wild Parrot.

People make your choice NOW because you know the band will sell out in two days as in past years! As the presentation ended Bunji Garlin and Faye-Ann Lyons took center stage to perform all their hits from 2k8 and past tracks as well. Then it was just one big party, where you had the choice/opportunity to go eat, get a tattoo, go check your Macobook ... ah mean Facebook, drink some more or just stand and pose, taking in the ambiance and the beautiful people around.
