London, UK Promotions: London Notting Hill Carnival LTD (LNHC) Click on thumbnails to see the big picture/entire gallery This August 2009, the Bank Holiday in London, was the 45th Notting Hill Carnival Parade. It has been held every August Bank Holiday since 1966 and it is known as the largest festival celebration of its kind in Europe. Every year the streets of West London come alive, to celebrate the five (5) carnival art disciplines: masquerade bands, steel bands, calypso & soca music, static and mobile sound systems. Ladbroke Grove and its surroundings turns into roughly twenty miles of vibrant colourful costumes, over 40 static sound systems, hundreds of Caribbean food stalls, and over 40,000 volunteers and over one (1) million Notting Hill carnival revellers. The parade of bands go round the carnival route just once, but it takes up to several hours. Sunday is officially Children's Day and the J'ouvert Day unofficially with loads of mud, paint or otherwise known as dirty mas, but there are loads of kids on both days enjoying the bright colours of the floats and the dancers' feathered costumes. Notting Hill Carnival sets London on fire in a blaze of Caribbean spirit!!!! Bring On Notting Hill Carnival 2010!!!! ==================================== |
