I guess the question is really simple. Did Miami Carnival & Broward Carnival 2008 live up to the expectations? Okay, here are the standard things we want to know:
What was de Best Fete for Miami/Broward Carnival?
What was de Worst Fete for Miami/Broward Carnival?
What Chune Mash Up Miami/Broward Carnival?
What Parties had more man than woman, that resulted in "ah whole bag o man" as my Jamaican friends would say or "Snake Fight" ... (worst yet, while Soca playing)?
What parties had the most girls? You know, the generous one who put a smile on your face when she push back...
We want to know.....
After de Juice done... Send back meh tuppa-ware!

I've never been to the Miami Carnival before, but this year, the TJJ team did some re-shuffling. And all I can say is, Generation X crew ... I had a time!! I ga see you all in the band, same time, same bat channel for 2009!! TJJ TV coverage will be CRAZY!

Doh get me wrong Broward Caribbean Carnival goes across county lines and I have always enjoyed the concept of multiple countries and being global, that creates real vibes especially when you have the likes of Dominica, Haiti, Belize, of Course Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados and more. I am surprised that you say that because I have always loved the stage performance form several islands at Broward Carnival and by the end of the night usually has an excess of what looks like fifteen thousand or perhaps as many as 20K patrons. I know when the sun done set and the lights go down, after we done eat at the Trini Spot, the stage show is good. I know you guys just missed the Original Lime Flav this year. Doh worry next year if God spare life, I go come again. I miss jumping up with Mascots too! Christine, look out for me next year amongst your revelers. And my NY crew, Big & Strong and d big One Island Body Paint Band... we deya! I goh be among the TJJ Broward Carnival Team next year, at least by the time we hit the home stretch, because I have to glide between over 15 separate Masquerading Bands traffic jam.

New Venue, New Challenges. The party went on well, problems at ticket outlet cause we weren't allowed to sell ticket onsite. Well a black ting or not, hopefully it will change next year. The Fete was awesome, the setup of carnival village food and setup was just a bit spread out. But great work for the Broward People.

University Fete, the party started off slow and late but it was explained by one of your reps that the slow start was the result of the rain. But with that taken care of, that party was "the bomb". You stepped up and we had the best time. The ny happening was bad, but this one, you give exactly as you promised - bigger and better. The line up was the best anybody could ask for - machel, bunji and byron lee. We were vip ticketholders and we were treated as such. We had a great time, even with the slow start. Keep us on the mailing list for any event in ny. You have definitely earned our respect and we are fans. Congratulations!! By the way, your support staff - security and ushers were excellent

The WORST FETE..............My friends and I purchased tickets for Brass and Glow on Saturday night. We were trying to find the venue when we found out that the event was cancelled. We still went to the venue. No rain in sight............nobody in sight..........no party in sight......needless to say nobody saying nothing about refunding our money. Shame Shame

The Broward and Dade counties need to come together as one so that their is not one carnival in one place and another somewhere else at the same time!
|
said this on 25 Oct 2008 8:57:26 PM UTC
Why whould Broward come together with Miami. There are less tolls in Broward. Broward has its own budget. Get it together there are two different goverment agencies. Is like saying New York owns the Statue of Liberty. Let New York and New Jersey come toghether on that. Let the best Carnival reign!

Listen .... the best Fete for Miami 2008 was ...... DV8 ..... trust me ... Best Location ... Best Music ... Best Food ... Topshelf Liquor flowing all night ... Hot Men and Hot Women ..... If U weren't rhere ... U missed out!!
|
said this on 16 Oct 2008 8:16:00 AM UTC
DV8 definitely put a new twist on the Miami Carnival. I have come to expect the highest quality from the same promoters of Taboo and that is why their parties get ranked in our top 10 Ram Dances. See the full list here. http://www.trinijunglejui ce.com/tjjnews/blogs/5/Da nce-is-RAM-2008.html

I agree, DV8 was hot!!!!! Better than Taboo. Me and my party had a wonderful time. The food, the drinks, the music, the people....we had a ball. The only thing I would have liked was to hear more of a variety in the music. I heard very little from Barbados and nothing at all from other small islands. Come on, Trinidad isn't the only island that make soca or calypso music you know.

The absolute worst fete was that UWI All Inclusive. The show was good, but food was horrible, no selection, the bar was a mess, bartenders beggin for $ just to get you ah drink! I don't care if Kitch performing, UWI will never see me again!

I totally agree..the food was subpar to say the least...I went in 2002..it was bad..not me again..EVER!

Well Red Eye was off the chain "The Official" one. The choice of venue wasn't spectacular eh, but the fete in general most certainly is getting an A+ from me!
|
said this on 16 Oct 2008 8:14:06 PM UTC
UWI Fete was definitely the best.. the food was shite and the drink service .. hmm.. well dat was de worst ever! Now if they could combine the drink service they had at the Scruples Block-O and the performances from UWI Fete.. oh Goosh! Dat will be the best jam session and liquor flowing session ever! People bong to get on wassi!

Being a DJ and being in the business, I can agree with a lot of the negative comments coming out of the University Fete 2K8. However, the one thing that I cannot knock the fete for was the outstanding performances by the artists. Great show guys!!!
Now, what I have a hard time understanding is the poor planning, organization, food and drink service for such a large event. Changing the venue to what was called a bigger and better venue.. Let's see Gulfstream hosted the Breeder's Cup of horse racing, more than 30,000 people and that was too small for this event.. Someone needs to come up with a better explanation than bigger and better.. Then to make things worse you did not explain with the change of venue came a change of parking, because patrons arrived at the venue to find out that if they were not holding VIP tickets you had to drive and park two miles away and take a shuttle bag to the venue. I had friends standing in line for more than two hours and eventually gave up and decided to leave. Too many people lost too much time waiting to get to the fete and missed out on a great part of the show... They have a right to be angry..The ones who just walked away, have a right to be angry. The people who said this was the best fete, they had VIP tickets and had the best service.. I am happy for you, but whether you pay $120 or $70, the service should not be S.H.I.T. The people who paid $70 were the ones who were robbed of the good "hot" food and adequate access to drinks at a the bar. It took me almost an hour to get my first drinks at the bar. The second time I tried a fight broke out and I just walked away. Will I go again.. Maybe, because the performances were great... I'll just have to do all my drinking and eating before I get there.. So the people who are complaining have a right to do so, because it was really very poorly executed for people who were not VIP ticket holders.. Nuff said |

I went to de Browdard County Carnival, never been to Miami, maybe next year. But all in all, I thought the energy wish hype. Is good that you came park up and listen to music and eat some good food at Joy's Roti shop. Can't wait for TnT 2k9!!

Thank you for coming to Broward this year. I can assure you you won't be let down for 2009. We are already making the necessary corrections to make it even better.

Well, I had a time at UWI fete but probably because I had a VIP ticket. I had no problems ordering my Ciroc and Hennessey at the bar. The food was alright but the wait for food was ridiculous. They need to set up like in T'dad and have different food stations as opposed to one area. My other top fete was Rise and Shine. Love the vibes of this fete. Music flowing and everyone just enjoying themselves!!

The Bayside hut fete was 10 man to 1 girl, the rest rooms were nasty and behind god back, didn't bother to eat or drink too much, u had to wait too long. And they rob u blind with the parking $20. At least they had good music and performances.

UWI fete while advertised as bigger and better delivered in terms of the performances. The food and drink stations in general admission however did not make our grade and for that we apologize. While we realize that VIP did not have to endure the wait for food and drinks, our goal was to have the same VIP experience for all patrons. Bigger yes, Better, not without it's flaws. We will again bring UWI fete back in 2009 and will be implementing major changes in ticketing, parking, food and drink stations as these were the areas which were lacking.
1) TicketMaster will be our ticketing agent. 2) The venue will have sufficient "on-site" parking to accommodate all patrons, "not just VIP". 3) Food vendors will be abundant and of the caliber deserving of our patrons. All patrons will be advised prior to the event of who the vendors are and their food menus. 4) Multiple drink stations will be positioned throughout the venue and will be better staffed. 5) Special discounts will be offered to patrons of the 2008 University Fete with proof of purchase. Again, we delivered on the entertainment, plan on maintaining the integrity of UWI Fete and to bolster our patrons confidence in our capacity to put on the "Biggest & Best" Carnival fete. Ok...
I went to as many fetes as possible.. Here is what i think.. Wedn. Bacchanal Wednesday @ Sosta Lounge - Excellent, anybody who didnt come in town on the wednesday nite, or people who live in South Florida who didnt come, u missed out. WOW. i had an amazing time Thurs. GirlPower @ Mahi Temple - Excellent, I know they advertised Tizzy & Shurwayne and they were not there. But WHO CARES... MACHEL MONTANO was not advertised and he was there and did one of the best performances. Frid. Black & White @ Grand Palms - Excellent, Much improved since last year. I loved the venue and music selection. Keep It Up!!! Frid. Flag Night @ Bayside Hut - CRAP, total CRAP... After leaving Black and White to go down to Bayside Hut since they advertised till 10am and my friends and i have our tickets and we got there and it was already shut down... WTF, where is my money..... Who ever does Socavivor, u just lost out on alot of business, dont expect me or any of my friends back at any of your events Sat. UwiFete @ Grand Palms - CRAP, the guy up top, i think his name was Dj Extreme, he said it the best by saying, bigger and better venue (LIARS)... Please dont throw a party again, i wont be attending after the treatments we recieved.... If any promoter is reading this, please do an event to compete against this... I will support u 100% Sat. CoolerFest @ Soho Studios - Excellent, From what i understand it was SOCA FEST but with a Cooler, NICE.... I like the concept and price. Last year it cost more and i had to buy drinks. This year it was cheaper and i didnt ave to buy any drinks cuz they were all in my cooler, but if i did run out of drinks, cups or ice, i like the fact that i could just get from the bar. Cast line up was decent... All in All, well worth the money and time. Sat. Machel Party @ 90 Degrees - CRAP, total CRAP... I left CoolerFest for this..... CoolerFest had almost 4000 people.... Well i really dont know, it looked like alot. But to go from that and go to Machel, its Machel, i expected over 5000 people... HELL NO... if they had 200 people they had plenty... And VENUE, hahahahaha, CRAP... Who ever is the promoter of that Machel thing should link up with the promoters from CoolerFest and do it together.... Sun. Miami Carnival all the way. I dont know why it has a split in South Florida... But Miami Carnival is the originators so i go with them. I dont like to support people who try and capitalize off the hard work and efforts of what Miami Carnival built.... U guys need to come together and do it as one carnival. Forget the money, forget the location, forget the number of people.... Just think about our culture.... The 2 carnival board members look STUPID fighting... We have very few Caribbean People that can support.. why split them... And as for on the road for Miami Carnival.... CHINA CHINA CHINA.... they had a section which i beleive was called blood diamond, WOW... Very well put together... And what i liked about there costumes is that none of them were simalar. The first 2 people in these post said GENERATION X, i wish u knew carnival.... Every year i watch Generation X and every year i see the EXACT same costumes in the exact same colors.... Even with a different theme each year, its still the same SHITE.... Get a new designer and tell ur people who are making the costumes to do something completly different.... Sun. After Carnival Eden @ Grass Lounge - Excellent, Had a great time... Excellent music, the best DJs, Especially Crown Prince... I thnk he is a great dj... Mond. Last Lap @ Bayside Hut - LOL, total crap, worst party for the whole carnival. absolute worst.... Out of all the artist that was supposed to perform only 1 did... Thank god... At least i got a performance out of the money i paid to get in. i saw Ricky T but i guess he didnt want to perform in front of 40 people. lol... Generation X, please do something about ur events. Damn... Kids all over the place and talk about GHETTO.... not my style.... Thanks for everyones time Ricardo |

Broward Carnival is the place to be. The crowd was there, the public enjoed themselfves and we party til 11:00 p.m. We parade through 6:00 p.m. The Show was the best.
There is NO NEED for ONE Carnival in Broward will continue to grow and we will succeed. The Visitor and Convention Bureau of Broward County, The County itself is a seperate enltity. Let the best show grow. |

Since no one spoke about the CHUNES that mash up for 2008 Miami & Broward Carnivals .. so ah ga give meh 2 cents! Two words ... "PUSH BUMPERS"!!! Machel's chunes were heavily played in all fetes as usual .. but "Push Bumpers" got nuff forwards. Natural Freaks even stop de fete at Shine Miami'08 to announce that when they play "Push Bumpers" any man had the rights to wine on ANY bumper he wished to!! Ah love it!!
Besides Fay-Ann's "Get On" getting mad love when bands were crossing the stage, ah mus say that Vincy's 2008 Road March title holder Skinny Fabulous hit "On The Spot (Head Bad)" get nuff love from the DJs and people alike. BIG, BIG tune. Someone actually thought it was Bunji Garlin's chune ... fyaaaahh!! |

To me the best fete for 2008 carnival was Ram Jam United bash at Galaxy Skateway, for all the small islands massive. Worst fete was Int. Flag night. 190 for a bottle of Henessey, jam finished 5 am. They claim police shut down the jam but no police ever stepped foot on stage. I been to plenty jams and a big ass mofo usually shows his face on stage and shut it down. Then they say come back sun and tickets will be respected. But how the hell they gon respect my ticket when they collected it at the gate. Girl Power was also a disappointment because Shurwayne and Tizzy didn't show up. But I must admit, it was a damn good jam still though. For some reason I would have rather it to be outside, but i ain't complaining.
